Palo Alto AWIS Mission
The Palo Alto chapter of the Association for Women in Science (Palo Alto AWIS) was founded in 1983 by Rivka Sherman-Gold to:
- provide networking opportunities for women in science at all levels
- foster career development and advancement for women in science
- raise public awareness of the scientific and technological skills of women
- work with other scientific, educational, and women's organizations in developing national and community programs that meet the above goals
- provide recognition for women scientists in order to advance the above goals
About Palo Alto AWIS
AWIS Palo Alto has been connecting Peninsula women in science for more than 25 years. In fact on April 16th, 2012, we will celebrate our 27th anniversary. The Chapter has over 200 members and serves a large geographical area from San Mateo to Santa Cruz. There are monthly chapter meetings featuring distinguished speakers on a wide range of topics. We invite you to join us and participate in any activities that interest you. The friends you make at AWIS will enhance your career potential and your unique input can shape the future of the AWIS Palo Alto organization for the better. National AWIS
AWIS, a non-profit national organization of women and men, was established in 1971 with the mission to achieve equity and full participation for women in a variety of scientific fields.
