The Mentoring Committee strives to build bridges between professional women scientists in the Bay Area and women graduate students of science at Stanford University through a one-on-one mentoring program. The Committee believes that by sharing our time, our experiences, and our friendship in mentoring the young women graduate students of today, we will be assisting the creation of the scientific leaders of tomorrow. Greetings! Thank you for offering your time and talents for furthering science education in our local communities. Your AWIS-Palo Alto Outreach Committee is here to support you. Besides the benefit to students, our goals are also to provide opportunities for learning, your personal satisfaction, and development in leadership and teaching skills.Once we receive a request, we gather as much information as possible before a recruiting email is sent out to our volunteers. We try to protect your privacy. We act as your liason and answer your questions until you feel comfortable in committing to any requests. Your email address and personal info will not be given out without your permission. We also try to provide you with presentation ideas that match your interests and those of the request. AWIS will either purchase or reimburse for supplies used in Outreach. If time allows, we can also co-lead, serve as assistants, have a "rehearsal", or just to provide moral support. The idea is also to make doing Outreach fun for you! Looking forward to working with you.
The Programs Committee is responsible for choosing meeting topics, arranging for speakers, and coordinating refreshments for each meeting. The committee meets twice a year to coordinate upcoming meetings. If you have suggestions for topics or would like to become involved with Programs, please fill out the Programs Volunteer Form or the Suggestion Form.
