Job Title Program Manager, Professional Skills and Career Development, for Researchers
Background on OCPD
The goal of the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) is to help UCSF biomedical and health science trainees build skills necessary for pursuing careers rich in scholarship, leadership and discovery. The OCPD provides programs, services, individual assistance and web and print resources designed to enhance the academic development, professional development and career development of our students and post-graduate trainees (“scholars”).
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Program Director for Career and Professional Development, the Program Manager will coordinate programs and services for students and postdoctoral scholars pursuing research training (hereafter referred to as “research trainees”). The Program Manager will work primarily in two programmatic areas: 1) Helping research trainees develop the professional skills necessary for success, including skills such as written and oral communication, teaching, management/leadership, mentorship, and professionalism. 2) Helping research trainees develop their career plans and conduct successful job searches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, but graduate research experience leading to Masters or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Program coordination skills are critical.
  • Ability to create effective lesson plans, facilitate inclusive discussions, create and deliver clear presentations, design and use visual aids effectively, engage students of various learning styles.
  • Knowledge of research professions, including skills needed for success, cultural nuances.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally in person and via email with clients, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Experience working independently on complex, ongoing projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience proposing, developing, and implementing publicity materials to promote workshops, courses, and other services.
  • Experience working with a broad range of Mac-based systems and software.
