July 3: Born 1796, Maria Martin, the only woman assistant of naturalist John James Audubon.

July 4: In 1880, Mary H. Myers is the first woman to ascend in a balloon, which she continues to do for the next 40 years.

July 5: Juanita M. Kreps becomes the first female governor of the New York Stock Exchange in 1972..

July 6: Born in 1866, naturalist illustrator and children's writer, Beatrix Potter.

July 10: In 1971, the first meeting of the National Women's Political Caucus is held.

July 14: Born in 1868, Gertrude Bell, author, mountaineer and archaeologist.

July 19: Declaration of Sentiments is adopted at the first U.S. women's rights convention is Seneca Falls NY in 1848: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal...".

July 23: Harriet Strong, agriculturist born in 1844, patented water storage dams .

July 24: Born in 1940, Cynthia Moss, wildlife biologist and elephant researcher.

July 28: In 1977, Elizabeth Ellery Bailey is confirmed as the first female member of the Civil Aeronautics Board.
